The Project Is Closer To Fruition

We’re closer to getting the site into being more than just an idea, and a genuine reality - it’s only a matter of time before it’s up and running. I’m updating here because this is more likely to be seen than my Twitter stream. I have a great ensemble of talented writers on deck, and opening week should be fantastic - if you have any ideas for anything you’d like to contribute or introduce yourself to the site with, now would be the time.

  • If you have any ideas as to a name for the project, please, please send those inquiries to me. It’s sad to say this, but that’s one of the biggest things I’m facing right now in terms of obstacles towards getting this off the ground. We need a domain name that is dignified, universal, and stays fresh in people’s memories. It doesn’t have to be traditional, at all; it could be taken from a song lyric, a product of some weird subconscious idea you had, or anything of the sort. As much shit as people’re giving rappers for uninspired names of their proects, this is a real-life dilemna. If you have any suggestions for names, please send those to yayodancing@gmail.com
  • I would just call it YayoDancing, but that may seem egotistical. I’m not an egotist, and this is a group project from all those involved; WE ARE THE WORLD (WIDE WEB). I’m just at the helm. This site isn’t about me, it’s about all of us.
  • Tumblr fucking sucks. The homie RNT just recently announced his hiatus frm tumblr, so that’s one less reason for me (and ya’ll) to sign on here each day. I’m having the same problems he is - between Tumblr fucking up my followers/people I follow, crashing on a daily basis, and deleting the text that I spend so long writing in this very box (note to self: paste this in word). I appreciate tumblr for the launching pad its given me, and the fanbase I’ve built (200 followers, swagswagswag), but there’s way too many bugs and glitches on this thing right now for me to update reguarly. Also, as Noz pointed out from his personal experience in the past, you (and I) get more notes for funny pictures than you (and I) do for anything we actually write. That’s depressing, tumblr. Stop it.
  • I am still taking applicants, despite the fact that I have so many as of now. We need this to be as big as possible. I’m not ready to cap yet.
  • I appreciate all of you. Thank you for getting me this far. Let’s take it so much further, though. LET’S RULE THE E-ZINE BUSINESS!

Let’s get it (HAHA)

Somewhere you said that soulja boy is on the same level as wiz as far as rapping skill goes. But I feel like Wiz had a far superior lyrics and flow in show and prove and his prince of the city mixtapes. Do you think at one point in time wiz was better than soulja skill wise? I kind of feel like he dumbed his style down to weed raps (although I enjoy some of that too).

Wiz was without question a better rapper on Show and Prove and Prince Of The City tapes - it was only when he aspired to be the next Lil’ Wayne (giggles and all) that he started to faulter.

In 2011, I’d argue that Soulja is a better rapper than Wiz because he actually cares about rapping. He may not be as naturally gifted as Wiz (was), but he’s taken great strides towards becoming a good rapper while Wiz has taken great strides towards becoming every white girl’s favorite rapper.

Because I do not use twitter, sorry for the odd question. But did you ever bother to download Purp and Patron?

I streamed a bit off it off LM; I didn’t know how to feel about it entirely. Frankly, I haven’t really been feeling Game since The Doctor’s Advocate, and that was back in 2006. I can’t really offer any real insight into it; I might listen to it in full later. Taylor Made is dope, if that means anything.

you've probably already got this question before, but where's a good place to start with OJ? i've slowly been getting into bricksqaud's (II) music, starting with Flocka, and some Gucci and Frenchie. OJ's appearance on Gucci's tape (Bought A Chicken, notably) and on B's Pretty Boy Remix have garnered interest from me. As well as the new leak from Culinary Art School 2 called Juice Wea Ya Been. i know i'm late to the party, but i never got around to hearing his stuff (along with gucci, waka, soulja, etc.). i always listen to things at my own pace and try not buy into the hype and feel like a hypebeast -_-

AHLAHSKA N ATLANTAH CUHHHHHHHH! DEM HIS BEST SHITS SHAWTY, YUNG JU HOPPED UP ON DEM LUGAH TRACKS LIKE! AYE! OKAY! THAT SHIT IS BUMPIN’ SHAWTY - IT’LL GET YOU BOOMIN’ N BUNKIN’ YAFEELME CUH? AYE! I am jw, have you ever heard of the anticon rappers and the rappers in deep puddle dynamics? sole, and dose one mainly. I was listening to the deep puddle dynamics album, and I realized that these guys were on some similar shit that lil b is on today. They touch on conscious topics with a kind of scattered and choppy flow. Only huge difference is the lack of crazy antics and cooking.

I fuck with Slug, and I’m very aware of DPD, but I’ve never given anything of theirs a full listen. Hearing some of their Rain album on Youtube, I believe I need to change that. This sounds like some menacing white-Gravediggaz shit.

I listen to no hip-hop, bar Tyler, the Creator and OF, Outkast, and some Dilla and Lil B, so there isn't a lot here that interests me. But it's easy for me to recognise that I've never found another person/blogger that can talk so in depth about his favoured curiosities (in the music sphere, mind). Basically I'm saying that I'm following only for your writing, and for the feeling I get knowing that there are impassioned people out there doing it for themselves.

thank you, tabernacle. I greatly appreciate all those kind words, and I’m glad that I can provide writing that entertains you.

Did you listen to the new Fiend mixtape?

I’m listening to it now. With the exception of the Addiction (which was great), I never heard any of Fiend’s earlier material, so I can’t really judge Tennis Shoes and Tuxedos in contrast to his No Limit days (although, unlike Meka, I’m very aware he has always rapped well.) His new JETS-affiliation is very present aesthetically; the production is very laid-back, jazzploitation that feels extremely blunted. Fiend’s pen hand is still strong, and his delivery is certainly refined. His singing is Rother-like in nature, and only adds to the soulful presentation. As a whole though - there’s very little that instantly grabs you, and the project, while solid, isn’t wholly memorable. If you’re a fan of Fiend, it’s certainly worth the listen, and you’ll get much more from it than I will. As a rather casual outsider, I find it cohesive yet forgettable.

What do you think of the claim that Eminem stole Cage's style? I can understand why people think so in terms of subject matter. But it seems to me that Slim Shady makes you laugh and Cage makes you go WTF. That's the reason why I'm puzzled by this.

Eminem and Cage both ripped off Esham and the rest of Detroit’s acid-rap scene.

I actually thought Recovery was decent. IMO, lyrically, it's great. But the production is laughable.

It was well-written at times, but the execution of the entire project was slack-jawed as hell. Eminem sang all his choruses, shouted all his verses, and rapped over instrumentals that would’ve been better suited for Selena Gomez.
